Residence

Key the residence as it appears on the record using the drop-down list to help. The residence is found on the top of the page beside the page number, at the top of the first column, or written across the column headers. If no residence appears, mark the field blank. A horizontal bar over a letter means that the letter is to be doubled, and should be keyed as two of the same letter.

Year Range

Key the year range using the first and last written years in the year range field, which is usually found on the right side of the image. For example, for the years 1800, 1801, 1802, and 1803, the year range is written as 1800-1803. If there are five pre-printed columns of years but only three are dated, use only those three years to determine the year range. For example, a form will have pre-printed five columns with 17__ and the enumerator will add the two-digit year (1725). If there are only three years added, key the year range using the first and last years.
See Example

To determine if there are several families on an image, look for women enumerated as wife (hustru) denoted by an "H" preceding the woman's given name. The man on the line preceding the wife will be the head of household. The children following the man and wife will be part of the household. A woman will be the head of household if she is a widow or no man is enumerated with her. The woman will usually be followed by the names of her children. Children are identified by a preceding "s" (son) or "d" (dotter). Illegitimate children may also be enumerated by "oä. s." (oäkta son) or "oä. d." (oäkta dotter).
